Pine Glen started wiith 60 iPads this school year on two Bretford Power Sync Carts! It was quite a bit of work to get the iPads ready to go for the students. I made a few mistakes a long the way, but here’s the most efficient method that I’ve found for getting all the iPads up and running in a uniform manner, particularly if you already have a bunch of free apps and apps purchased from the Volume Purchase Program:

The teacher who recommended it says she uses it to document little things in class that can slip her mind.

Another teacher says this is a great app to replace traditional lab books.

Alternative to Wallwisher, you can set up groups for collaborative projects.
This is a very visual way to bookmark. Because the stickies can be rearranged it lends itself to clustering of ideas almost like a mind map.

Features of iPhone/iPad App
  • You can freely post memos, pictures and videos you take with your iPhone, and even files as stickies on a canvas.
  • You can set due date, tags and icons on a sticky.
  • You can post stickies even when you’re offline. Stickies posted while you’re offline will appear once you’re online.
  • You can use group canvases shared with your friends.
    * PC browsers required to create a new group and manage its members.

.
This is a way for students to quickly collect information sources for a project without having to use a social bookmarking service. Ask each small group member to take a different sticky colour. Ask for annotation of a source when it's added to a board. Attach files with rubrics, project instructions, etc. to their boards.

Can be used to bookmark the resources (with annotations for later) in one space. (Adding the bookmarklet tool makes this easier. Individuals can choose different colours for their 'popples'.

"Popples" can then move their collections around on the screen and start linking them into a mind map. This could be very cool if it works on a Smart Table.

If you've ever tried the Visual Thesaurus, you'll have some idea of the power of giving students a way to create blooming visual maps of their own ideas.

There is a free version (limited, non-collaborative, with watermark/logo) that can be accessed from any computer and should look very cool on a Smart Board.
Example: ThinkBox 2.0 tools

Can you hook an iPad to a Smartboard to share app creations?

"Three days ago, my assistant principal asked me to give a workshop to teachers who are piloting the use of the iPad as an instructional tool in their classrooms. As I planned and obsessed over my workshop, I realized that it would be most ideal if I could put my list of apps online so that I can revise it whenever I want. After all, from the perspective of an English teacher, all works are in a constant state of revision, nothing is ever considered truly finished."
About 30 apps altogether -- mostly for teachers, but some cal also be useful for students
