Our idea of blended learning is not the same as the newbie "hybrid" learning. Hybrid learning implies to me that there are are 2 modes: direct contact and online learning. Each has its place, but you're either in one mode or the other. For example a student taking automechanics would do the theory online and the practical work in a school shop under the watchful eye of a teacher.

With blending, I see2 complementary trends:
  • on the classroom side we're trying to add more technology to what we do
  • on the e-side, teachers are trying to inject more of the their own presence into the learning environment

Where we meet is:
  • in our desire to make the process more engaging and to enhance learning, and
  • in the use of Web 2.0 tools to involve students in more collaborative knowledge building

So blended learning means: engaging learners & enhancing learning -- however and whenever we can -- doing what works!
