Communicate & Collaborate
(Image Credit: Dean Shareski's Interesting Quotes Series in
CC 9 July 2009)
Web 2.0 is all about forging connections. Students are already good at this, so we want them to use that skill to collaborate to make their learning more powerful. My students think the live large because they have big circles of friends. As I see it they want to spend time with people who confirm their ideas about the world and their place in it. Collaboration is about taking on the challenge of considering different views, taking them on board, and growing one's own perspective as a result. These tools can make that possible and even easy to facilitate.

Basic is free, but there is so little storage, if you want to store videos, you'll need to pay for a classroom account.
"PBworks hosts more classroom wikis than anyone else in the world, and lets you create a simple, secure wiki in about 60 seconds.
*Wikis drive engagement and collaboration. A wiki is a live, evolving document – but gives you user tracking and access controls to monitor your wiki at all times.
*You can make your wiki public or private or anywhere in between. No matter what, PBworks keeps your students’ information safe."
