I've been looking for a math resource that would give me ideas about how to "calm the math" for a bit as Dan Meyer says -- how to awaken interest and pique curiosity in order to 'bait the hook' and get students thinking about their math. Yes -- this is part of my current Inquiry Based Learning course and honestly 3 months ago I'd have dismissed this as so much frill, fluff, and time away from what's important -- i.e. building those skills. But now I'm convinced there has to be more to math than that ! These are the TOC's for the first 2 sections of their Algebra course. They blow most collections of student materials away!

This Math Laboratory has been designed so students can EXPERIENCE math. We believe that people learn math best by DOING it and USING it in their lives. Learning is easier if it is pleasurable as well. So to help our users learn, we here at themathlab.com have created a site full of interactive lessons, math magic, games, humor, a math "gym", and lots more. Many of our lessons include practice problems which generate passwords when solved correctly. These passwords will take you to "treasure rooms". You can use any password by entering it into the TreasureFinder on the navigation bar at the bottom of every page.
